Project Rescue in asso. with S.E.A.L. ashram
Rotaract Club of Jai Hind College is proud to initiate a community service project – “PROJECT RESCUE”. This project is in alliance with SEAL (Social and Evangelical Association of Love).
SEAL is an NGO, engaged and dedicated to the purpose of rescuing destitute and homeless from the streets and railway stations of Mumbai.
SEAL goes way back in 1999, founded by Philip Pastor, who wholly and solely dedicated to rebuilding the lives of these, destitute and vagabonds on the streets, regardless of gender, age and ailments, in the wake and hope of a bright future with the help of unconditional love and care. It had a very modest and humble start in a rented room with a nine month old HIV positive boy rescued from a red light area.
In the quest to uphold its principle of “rescue those being led to death, hold back those staggering towards slaughter…”, it not only provided them with basic amenities of food, clothing and shelter, but it also strives to trace their families back home and reunite the lost and forsaken.
We, the members of RCJC have planned to extend a helping hand to this cause by way of donations. The donations would constitute of dal, rice and money for medicines.
The counters for collection of donations would be set up in the college campus on the 29th and 30th April, from 12.00 to 3.00 pm.
We would appreciate if you would support our venture and help the needy and make this project a success.

Hamara Salam
In our project Hamara Salam we wanted to honor the police that serves and protects us on the stations and showed our gratitude to them by thanking them with a white rose.
The police which protect us on the stations and are on constant guard go unnoticed and are ignored. The police had shown a remarkable performance and kept the stations really safe later after the derided attacks of last year. Hence we thought of doing something different than peace marches and criticizing the police for slack they showed on the day of the attacks and we thanked the police and gifted them the symbol of peace, a white rose.
The policemen and the commandos were amazed to see a group of students dressed in white thanking them and gifting them roses…….. This gesture brought a very content smile on their face and they appeared motivated and happy. Everyone seemed to love the idea because it was simple, innovative and yet effective. The response was so good that we had to buy the flowers thrice from the nearest florists. We also had a hand painted card which was given to the Sheriff of Mumbai, which includes messages from our members, public on the station and people from our college. This event was attended by 12 of our members
It was just our little way of saying thank you to the ones who put their lives at risk so we can sleep peacefully at night.

CHILDREN’S DAY!!!! This brings back memories of our childhood and the celebrations in our schooldays. This year the community service avenue of the Rotaract club decided to brighten up the day of a few less fortunate children and bring a smile on their face whenever during their life they think of this day the way it does for the most of us.
We decided to spend this children’s day with the orphans of the St. Catherine of Siena Orphanage .Our basic motto was to meet these children and spend some time with them by playing, showings different things, having small and sweet conversation with them so they feel delight and motivated from inside. It was worth by spending quality time with them. All the 12 of our Rotaractors from the club were enjoying with children by playing games, spinning and talking. It was one of the most heart touching project at the end of our project those children were so close and they were crying at the time of our departure. The project idea was quite basic and will still bring a smile to all those present on the day whenever the words ‘children’s day’ is said or even while reading this. This project just goes to prove the saying “The simplest things can make us the most happiest”

“To light up their lives with their dreams”
The festival of lights and one of the most awaited festivals of the year of an Indian. We as rotaractors’ of the jai hind college tried to bring the smiles on the faces if the less fortunate, those who wont be able to light those big colorful rockets by just spending some quality time and letting their imagination run wild on the medium of a small clay pot.
The actual event took place on the 14th of October with the help of an organization called Hamara Footpath (They are an organization which has taken up the tedious task of teaching the roadside children everyday and they do it with the biggest smiles on their faces). We gathered the children and got them to the Gandhi Park, Nariman Point. There they were made into groups of 4 with a volunteer in each group to help them. Each child was given a diya n some decorations to decorate the diyas. The diyas were not only painted by the children but were also parents and even some grand-parents who came up to us to ask if they could also paint.
The diyas that were made were collected and were sold for a very reasonable price and the money earned from the sale has been given to back to the organization who have used according to they thought was needed.
So it turned to be joyful for all and not only the children but also for all 14 of us present there to celebrate with them.

Ever wondered how much your presence could matter to someone? How just meeting someone for a couple of hours can brighten the rest of their day?
RCJC organized another heart warming project – a trip to an old age home.
RCJC spent the day at the J.J Hospital and Old Age Home on Parsi New Year.
It was so sad seeing the people there abandoned by their families and hoe theirs faces lit up when they heard that they had visitors.
We took food packets for them and spent the entire day there.
Everyone felt really nice seeing that or presence there made a difference , the old people were so happy to see us and were so crushed when it was time for us to leave , the sad smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes made our eyes water too.
This project was one of the best organized by RCJC; this was one project which left everyone speechless.

Rangoon mein dhal jao – no it’s not related to holi!
It was another colorful community service based project, where we went to the spastic society in bandra to teach the autistic children to paint.
Seeing how eager they were to learn made us eager to teach them.
They seemed to enjoy painting their hands in different colors and painting peacocks!
Some of them even got up and recited poems and sang songs.
It was another project which made us realize how our presence, even for a limited time can make a difference.
The experience was outstanding.

No! We are not asking you to beware of ranbir kapoor!!!
We are asking you to take precautionary measures against diseases like swine flu!
Bachna Ae Mumbaikar – a community service based project mainly involved handing out flyers at traffic signals and to other random people.
The flyers gave preventive methods for swine flu; there was information on first aid, important things to be kept in a car and emergency numbers.
People found these really helpful. We had over 10 groups participating. The whole thing was a success.
